In 2023, Tumbled By The Sea LLC was established to share the joys of beachcombing through educational programs and displays. A unique approach was needed to expand public accessibility to a large family collection of sea glass, sea pottery, historic artifacts, and more! The solution was to locate a vehicle with the capacity to house a curated exhibit for others to enjoy. A retired transit bus was purchased in Connecticut and ferried to Long Island, New York, to start a new life as a beachcombing exhibit on wheels! Thus began a family-fueled project of repurposing and remodeling “Buoy the Bus,” which resulted in a mobile museum that travels to events and organizations in New York and beyond!
Through admission, the mobile museum allows visitors to view a beachcombing exhibit filled with curated collections and interactive displays. Although tours are self-guided, an educator is available during programs and events to enhance the experience and answer questions.
Tumbled By The Sea offers lectures and workshops about the identification and historical significance of beach finds.
